Around the age of 15, after about five years of performing, I started teaching guitar lessons to kids around my community and discovered a love for sharing my musical knowledge with others. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time a 5 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the guitar. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. My teaching methods are always tailored to each individual student. With that said, for beginning and/or younger students, I typically start with the fundamentals of the guitar/piano, and begin the initial development of dexterity by reinforcing the fundamentals through teaching songs that the student picks themselves. As the student's ability progresses, I then start relating those primal concepts to the foundation of more advanced concepts that soon give the student the freedom to play whatever they want, however they want.
