I love Faber and Faber for piano. I have several very young students doing the series for preschoolers. These materials are supplemented with Keith Snell's literature books. All students do at least one duet per year and two recitals.I love to take students as far as they can go in their lesson books and then back that up with the technic books, which are generally a bit easier. I began helping my friends work through their music when I was 19 at Missouri Western State University, and eventually cultivated a bustling studio of students through word of mouth. I adhere to what the student would like to pursue as far as material and technical ability. I first begin by learning the goals of the individual student. I generally start with introducing the student to the instrument, fretboard, nut, saddle, etc. I show the student how to hold the guitar and pick. I believe in teaching the fundamentals of the instrument. I also believe encourage the student to ask questions and make suggestions as to how they think they might learn to play the guitar. Read More
