I have been playing and writing music for 15 years. I began playing guitar when I was 15 years old, and throughout my high school career I played in several different bands. By the time I got to college I performed with a classic rock band and began studying music theory for piano. In Delta State Universities Interdisciplinary program I began to take in a lot of musical knowledge very quickly. It is of the utmost importance for me the instructor to understand as clearly as possible what the student is after. I picked up teaching during my second year of college with some help from my mother- a long-time piano teacher. During that time I taught several different students ranging from age 6 to adult on various instruments including piano, guitar, and drums. I've experienced the different learning styles and barriers that come with teaching kids, teens, and adults. I use both classics and popular songs to teach reading, theory, ear-training, and improvisation. I teach all of my lessons differently- custom tailoring each one to the students (and parent's) wants, needs, and personal learning style. My success in teaching has come from helping the student to see the joy and pride that comes from attaining goals they might not have believed possible.
