Lessons are light, upbeat and informal, with many opportunities for parent participation if desired (when applicable). Students are encouraged to experiment with their instruments and to pursue their favorite musical styles. Adult Students are eligible for Performance Field trips and other learning opportunities  at no extra cost. I usually recommend piano as a starting instrument for children at least 5 years of age. Most often, I use the Alfred Piano Library Series of coordinating lesson books. I am most comfortable teaching beginner to intermediate level piano students. My main teaching instrument is Flute, and I can successfully teach ages 9 and up depending on the size of the student (sometimes younger if a curved head joint is used). I studied flute for about a year while playing valve trombone in local Detroit area bands. Mostly I have studied flute through personal study and affiliations with musicians with similar interests (improvisatory music). My formal studies were mainly low brass, then voice (two years private instruction at Wayne State University). I feel that my qualifications pale when compared to learning from "jam session" and playing jobs locally I feel "blessed" being able to share my music and views concerning the arts with friends and students. My experiences teaching a wide. I have been a camp counselor at Interlochen Fine Arts Camp and through Western Michigan's Program. While at college and a few years after graduating I taught private music lessons maintaining a weekly student load of 10 -15. I have taken some time off in the few years and in that time have done assisted living with adults with developmental disorders and mental illness. The past 5 winters I have also taught Ski lessons.
