I began teaching music in high school by leading flute sectionals in the marching band and music theory to my fellow choir members. I focused on performing during my undergraduate studies; then had the opportunity to share my musical talents in a different way when I began my music therapy career. My teaching style focuses on a student's strengths and successes. Any time a student has an "a ha!" moment, we stop and dissect what exactly happened. Perhaps the student used a new lip placement or air angle? We talk about this and figure out what they did to improve. Next, I encourage that same type of change in other aspects of their playing. I like to start beginning students with the Rubank Elementary series of books. Along with the Rubank books, I like to also focus on music being covered in school, if applicable. For more advanced students, I focus on the mastery of scales, technique, intonation, and sound production. I like to use the Andersen etude series, but this will vary from student to student. I am very passionate and dedicated about my playing. It is not easy but the end result is well worth the effort. I graduated from Free Will Baptist Bible Collage in 2008 with my Bachelor of Art in flute performance I also took my flute lessons at Belmont University. The first priority for me is to dully understand what each student and parent wants from the desire for private instruction. My teaching methods are tailored to each student's indidvidual needs and expectaions for the duration of lessons. I don't have a specific method book set, for I use multiple sources thoughout the teaching experience. Most of my students are middle and high school students.
