As a teacher, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student develop a passion for music. If my students do not leave every lesson feeling inspired, encouraged, and wanting to practice and play music, then I am not doing my job. Just as I tailor each lesson to match the individual student, expect the student to grow and develop as a musician at his/her own pace. I believe in teaching music that the student wants to learn, whether that's the latest pop song or basic music theory which can be applied to any style. For my piano students, I prefer Alfred's piano curriculum. For my guitar students, I use Hal Leanord books. For my voice students, we work on whatever songs they want to learn or have assigned to them for a performance. For flute, I like Rubank method, but am open to other preferred methods as well. My teaching experience began about 2 years ago as I started teaching private lessons part time. I started out with beginning piano lessons in my home studio. For the past 9-10 months I have built up my studio more and increased my number of piano students. I encourage regular practice and include incentives for extra practice. Music has been a big part of my entire life. I began playing piano at the age of 5 and flute at the age of 10. I was involved in the music program in my church as a teenager singing in the youth choir and playing in the handbell choir. I excelled in my music through high school which caused me to pursue music as a career. I was the principal flutist in the high school band and in the college band and orchestra. Read More
