In 1977, I graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Performance. In 1999, I was certified to teach Music K-12 by the state of North Carolina after attending NC Central University. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students succeed and enjoy learning music. I encourage the students to progress at their own pace, while offering some challenge at each level. I use incentives to encourage the students to continue to progress, while getting a sense of accomplishment. I am encouraging, gentle, demonstrate techniques, and help where students struggle. For beginner students, I typically start with Rubank Elemetary Method for Flute. However, if you have a different method book, I am happy to teach using that book, if I find it to be a credible source. For intermediate to advanced students, I prefer to use the Rubank Advanced Method Books 1 and 2, but again, if you have your own books, if I approve, we can use those books instead. I will be flexible with you and teach to your skills and experience with method books and repertoire that will help you improve your technique. Read More
