For young beginners I typically with Suzuki Book 1 or the Abracadabra Flute Book.  For children preparing for NYSMA I use the Rubank method with supplements from Forty Little Pieces and gradually move on to more solo repertoire.  For adult students I make repertoire selections based on students' interests while taking care to keep lessons both engaging and fun no matter their starting level.  Although my training is primarily classical, I am happy to incorporate music from other genres into lessons. While Joey loves to preform, he is passionate about teaching. He has been teaching since 2011. His teaching career began through the non-profit Bravo Waukegan in their Bravo Buddies Summer Camp. He began as the woodwind instructor and through the years worked to become the Artistic Director, managing all aspects of the month long camp. Joey has also served as the Director of Bands for Sistema Ravinia in Lake County and has worked as a teaching artist with the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic and for the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. I have taught at educational institutions including; Drew University in Madison New Jersey (saxophone, improvisation, and jazz ensemble); The International School of Brooklyn teaching music to children ages 3 to 7 years utilizing the Orff method; and the Kulanu after-school enrichment program in Stamford CT, where I coached teen jazz and klezmer ensembles. I want to make sure that anyone studying with me is having a fun time, but also learning good habits.
