I start beginners off with the Rubank Elementary Method, which introduces reading, scales, arpeggios, and expressive devices such as dynamics and articulation. I also like students to start with improvisation, composition, and ear training as soon as possible. My job is to assess the students abilities and lead them down the appropriate paths to achieving their musical goals. Once the student has a grasp of fundamentals, I introduce scales and solo repertoire appropriate to their development.
