As a teaching musician for the past nine years, I have found my own joy in teaching on-on-one and watching my students progress over time. I am a jazz musician and composer at heart. The woodwinds (saxophone, flute, clarinet and ewi (Electronic Wind Instrument)) will always be my main performing instruments. Although my journey into composition and teaching has given me practical experience on many other instruments as well, so that I am a competent player and teacher for beginner and intermediate students on piano, guitar and electric bass. When teaching younger students, I prioritize developing a passion for music through engaging repertoire and positive encouragement, while instilling proper technique and organized practice with weekly progressive assignments. I also establish practice expectations and share progress with parents. In every lesson I demonstrate concepts by performing various woodwinds and piano, and by singing. Advanced students work towards external goals established in consultation with both students and parents like school concerts, honor band/orchestra auditions, or college applications, encouraging students to grow their musical community outside of the lesson studio. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! So I hope to help every student develop at their own pace. I encourage this by realistically setting specific goals for each student at each lesson, making sure I am as clear as possible to help encourage this in any way. I also make myself very available for answering any questions any student might have, as well as working outside of the lesson to try and find the best way I can help each student. Read More
