Every student learns a different way and I always take the first lesson to evaluate what the student is passionate about. Some students want to get straight to playing songs and some want to learn sheet music first. I am comfortable with starting anyway they need. If the student starts to get bored after a few lessons I try and bring in new toys related to the instrument such as a new kind of cymbal or a slide guitar to try and spark some inspiration again! I have a very personal and relaxed way of teaching that helps each student enjoy and advance on their chosen instrument at their pace. I prefer 60 minute sessions to have the time to fully evaluate and advance from the previous lesson and to move on to new material. Seeing the "light bulb" go off inside of student's minds or inspiring even the most unmotivated learner was more than enough to wrap me into private lessons and educating to this day. My teaching experience encompasses everything from young students in private lessons, to large marching and concert band programs, to college level private lessons.
