With older students, I choose what books to start off with and why when I meet them, and understand their skill level. That way we create a productive environment that is really molded to their previous experience, if any, or their attitudes. I tend to begin younger students with Faber Piano Adventures, as that was what I was taught with too at a very young age. I have tried out various different piano books for children, but find that Piano Adventures, combined with tutoring on recognizing notes and reading music, is the most effective way to teach a child. For most of my beginning piano students, I use the piano adventures series. They offer a clear and well paced curriculum with numerous supplemental resources in a variety of styles. For beginning music theory, I use the Berklee School of Music texts or the Benward and Saker textbooks as well as many videos and other resources to explore musical concepts. For singing, I use a variety of sight singing books, all depending on the age and experience of the student. Read More

This includes scales learned withing the Classical idiom as well as the Contemporary music idiom which includes all styles of music.
