With older students, I choose what books to start off with and why when I meet them, and understand their skill level. That way we create a productive environment that is really molded to their previous experience, if any, or their attitudes. I tend to begin younger students with Faber Piano Adventures, as that was what I was taught with too at a very young age. I have tried out various different piano books for children, but find that Piano Adventures, combined with tutoring on recognizing notes and reading music, is the most effective way to teach a child. Teaching style could easily be summaried and paraphrased with my above stated pedagogy! Teaching style changes from student to teacher. These help in my search to find the perfect style at which the student understands and enjoys the task at hand. Read More

I also do my best to acknowledge the students strengths and weaknesses and take some time aside in class to speak to them about them. I believe it is important to have positive feedback but also to recognizes areas in which students can improve. Read More

It is vitally important that the environment of learning the drums be fun and comfortable. Nobody likes to come to a lesson stressed and nervous. This is not an audition, trust me, I've been in many of those and those are really stressful. Learning drums is going to be exciting, repertoire, and addicting, a good type of addict. Not only do I look forward to teaching a student how to play drums with me, but also learning at home with their own kit or practicing on a drum pad. Read More
