I have been a music lover ever since I can remember. Playing music has been one of the greatest gifts I have ever received, and I love sharing that gift with my students. I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and from University of North Texas with a Master of Music in Percussion Performance. I have played a wide variety of styles from classical, to rock, to Caribbean steel pan, and I draw from all of my experiences to help students realize their goals regardless of the styles they are interested in. Intermediate and advanced students "homework" will be even more personally tailored to their playing where I would teach whole broken down songs, advanced rhythms, advanced solos, how to actually tune your drums, recording and a lot more. I also encourage and can help with writing your own music. Composition plays a huge part in how we learn music because if we can't figure out how to be creative with our instrument sooner rather than later we sometimes lose interest. Read More

For adults, I will find out what interests my students and coordinate my lessons accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun. Read More

I began teaching private lessons about 25 years ago, after I had been hired to work with the drumlines for two different high schools. My first student was in one of the drumlines that I taught, and my second student was referred to me by the band director of another school, after seeing my drumline in competition. Since then, I have taught more students than I can count. Most students have been middle and high school age, but I have had lots of fun teaching students as young as 5 years old, and adults who always wished they had learned to play the drums.I have found that the best way to motivate students is tostart by teaching themto play the kind of music they like most, and then introduce them to other styles later.Lessons are always fun, and catered to the student's needs.
