I have always believed that music is a conversation between the musician and the audience, and the instrument is the interpreter. With this in mind, with any age, I start with a regular conversation. Knowing the passion, interest level, and motivation of the students helps me create a method of teaching that is specific to the individual. I also learn their experience and knowledge level. I'm a passionate instructor who loves teaching. I've been a musician since I was 6. I started playing piano, then moved on to percussion. By age 12, I played piano, drums and guitar fluently. I continued my education up to my masters from Texas A&M University in 2012. Upon graduating, I started teaching in the brazos county area. I moved closer to Houston to expand my career. I first start off with hand posture: simply learning to hold the sticks correctly eludes even some adults. no matter how far a student has advanced, I always watch their hands. a good hand posture will help the students' sound, as well as help prevent injury. Whether beginner or a bit more advanced, I have always liked to return to the basic foundational knowledge and techniques that must be understood well in order to advance and have a good sound and a good technique. For beginners in piano, I like to find books that the individual feels comfortable with and that they completely understand what they are getting themselves into. Every person is different. For snare drum, I like to use a book called stick control which helps students develop mastery in the way they play from precision to striking the snare drum correctly and the way they overall develop their style of playing.
