I picked up teaching during my second year of college with some help from my mother- a long-time piano teacher. During that time I taught several different students ranging from age 6 to adult on various instruments including piano, guitar, and drums. I've experienced the different learning styles and barriers that come with teaching kids, teens, and adults. In 2017, I graduated from Missouri State University with a BME (Bachelor of Music Education) with an emphasis in percussion. Throughout my time in my undergrad, I have been a part of renowned groups such as Dr. Belva Prather Wind Ensemble and Mr. Jerry Hoovers Pride Band organization. Other groups I have performed with include world famous Michael Burritt in his ensemble in 2015 Missouri Day of Percussion. I believe in a student learning to hear music and think for themselves. Through ear training, creativity, and learning "how" music works, the goal is to get each student to not need a teacher to learn their instrument, but want a teacher so they may become their best version of it. Music is fun. The only reason to start learning an instrument is so you can have fun while learning, because you never stop learning. While I have certain processes while teaching, lessons will be tailored to the student. We will make sure to take note of progress so the student can see where they were when they started compared to what they can do now. I will use a lot of practical examples so the student can see the principles we are learning and practicing being used in a live situation, i.e. other professional musician performances on video and/or audio.
