I do this by setting goals for the current lesson as well as goals for their next lesson. I believe that acknowledging the students accomplishments only makes the students want to progress further on their instrument. I have played with multiple orchestras community and semi-professional and community bands in Central Florida. I have also participated in WGI and DCI ensembles as a mallet or Synth or keyboard player. I studied classical voice for two years with Mark Baker former tenor for the Met Opera house. The best thing about teaching is when my students get frustrated at some concept or technique and I am able to show them a simple and easy solution to the problem.
