I have taught drum instruction and Jazz ensemble at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music for 20 years. In addition I developed and implemented elementary music programs for K-5 thru 4th grade for schools in the NY vicinity. Upon moving to the Milwaukee area I have taught private and group instruction for the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Elementary Music K-5 thru 8th grade at St. Josaphat's school, Music Therapy and intergenerational activities at the Lutheran Home, private studio and now Musika. In addition to technique we work on music theory where the student learns to identify both the type of note it is as well as identifying the name of the note dependent on the clef and key signature of the music. Carlos studied Percussion at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes of Mexico, Cultural Institute of Panamá, Republic of Panamá. as well with world known percussionist like Alex Acuña, Endel Dueño, Jesús Alfonso Miró (Musical Director of Los Muñequitos de Matanzas), Lamim Thiam, and more.With his explosive soloing and inventive conga patterns, Carlos is widely acclaimed as a grate percussionist. He is committed to the development of the conga drum, breaking down traditional percussion barriers to perform traditional latin rhythms, jazz, jungle, funk and hip-hop whilst retaining his distinctly latin roots.As a live and session performer, he played with various international artists including Willie Colón, Eugenia León, Oswaldo Ayala, Elizabeth Mesa (Judge of Latin American Idol), Paquito D'Rivera (multiple Grammy Award-winner), Enrique Nery, and more.His musical journey is a personal quest to explore and create new sounds and rhythmic fusions. I am a long-time musician and educator; I have been doing both professionally since I was sixteen-years-old. My first student was my band director's son. My first gig was with a polka band. I now have a masters degree in ethnomusicology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a masters degree in music performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee along with a certificate of advanced study in chamber music.
