The material and methods will be based on a student's skill-level and musical goals and interests. For orchestral band students, this would include basic technique, music reading, and repertoire. For teaching jazz I often use John Riley's "The Art of Bop Drumming" series as a source of practice material. For grasping the feel of various music styles, I will often listen to recordings with a student, and help them figure out what the drummer or percussionist is doing, and how to play it. Read More

There are certain fundamentals that every musician should know and over the years I have discovered various methods that clear up the mysteries that befall the aspiring musician. I like to create lessons geared towards each individual students needs. I work out of a few different books depending upon skill level. I try to gear the lessons towards the style of music the student likes while also teaching different techniques for a wide variety of music. I like to use rudiments and stick control as warm up exercises and then also teach different grooves and rhythms through song. for beginner students I will teach drum kit basics like setup. tuning and how to replace drum heads etc as well.
