In the past six years, I have taught privately at the School of Rock in Downingtown and Guitar center in Lancaster. I have also done some group lessons with a Lancaster based nonprofit called Music For Everyone. I try to challenge my students every week with sight reading and ear training methods. Besides from drum set, I have access to congas, djembe's, marimbas, vibraphones and many other percussion instruments, so my students can grow not just as a drum set player, but as a percussionist as well. My methods are in service of the cultivation of interest. Mainly I want the student to focus on learning how to play the music they want to play. The key to cultivating interest is to nurture the social, communicative and fun elements of playing music; associating the laughter and exhilaration with learning. I'm a self taught musician - I know that music is intuitive enough to learn without getting overly text-book about it, and I think focusing too much on the book at an early age can turn away potential musicians. It is an amazing feeling to see my students happy with the music they are learning! I give my students the music foundations and concepts so they can learn the music they want to play. I graduated the University of the Arts in 2013 with a degree in Jazz Performance for the drums. My talents have taken me all over the country, most recently with my band ILL DOOTS. For beginners, I have a special system that implements coordination while utilizing proper counting technique. As their understanding of their limbs grows the more I begin to welcome actual musical notation. This system has proven time and time again to tackle the initial issue that coordination imposes. In intermediate to advanced students I stress the importance of technique, quality of sound, coordination, visualization, and relaxation/movement.
