In contemporary Native Hawaiian culture, music making is a shared and collaborative space where people come together to create and learn from one another, regardless of how much prior experience you have. My relatives raised me with these understanding, and this is the type of environment that I like emulate and integrate with my lessons and students. I started taking drum lessons at 12 years old and studied jazz and swing drumming early on. I was a percussion major in college then spent a few years in Austin Texas traveling with country, rock and blues bands. Have played on over 20 records. My lessons are one on one and we both play side by side each at a drum set learning and having fun. My home studio is comfortable and provides a great atmosphere for music. Read More

I prefer to teach my students the way I was taught, by learning to read and write music. There are students who prefer to learn by ear, but written instruction is always best for countless reasons. I use a combination of my own introductory lessons (which I customize depending on the age and maturity of the student) with published books and materials. For piano, I like to use the Alfred books and classical sheet music but I am always open to using other instructional books and songs that the student may want to learn. Read More
