I'm a New York based multi-instrumentalist eager to share the craft of making music. I have been performing and teaching professionally for 15 years, since having moved to New York to study at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. There, I learned many styles of music and skills that I use to this day while performing. My lessons include theory, ear-training and voice training within the context of games and enjoyable activities, as well as technique appropriate to the solos students are working on. I talk about where the music comes from, the composers, and other ideas to make lessons more interesting. During the initial lesson, I determine what the student is interested in learning the best approach pace to help them achieve their goals. While I have recommend materials to varying levels of students, every lesson approach is different. With all my students, I believe keeping them engaged and excited at what they are doing is most important. I've found even the simple act and writing out a favorite song and learning through that can give wonderful benefits, gaining new tools without realizing. Read More

For the more advanced, I will start with a few warm-ups, and breath exercises before singing a short song (happy birthday, and/or prepared piece) before determining vocal range and repertoire. For clarinet beginners, I typically start with the "David Hite" methods book, and the "Big and Beautiful" technique outlined in "Squeak Big". I teach them to build a strong sound from open G and never leave a lesson until they can play a recognizable tune as they are learning the beginning concepts of breathing and technique. Read More
