I love teaching, and I do so with both encouragement and humor. I realize that not everyone can is able or willing to practice six hours a day, so I work with each student individually to find their pace. I am happy teaching both competitive students (I have had several students participate successfully in the ABRSM exams) and students who play purely for enjoyment. During my years of teaching in East Lansing Michigan my band programs continually earned first and second division ratings at festivals. We took trips to Chicago every other year to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and to do a workshop at Northwestern University and my students received first and second division ratings at Solo and Ensemble both at the district and state levels. I was a judge for solo and ensemble and band festivals. I have been teaching clarinet and piano since 2019. For each student, I focus on developing healthy practice habits (physically mentally) that allow them to be efficient and rewarded by their time spent with the instrument. I help students build a strong foundation of fundamentals so they are able to be successful working on more advanced literature. I'm always excited to help students at any level explore music as a means of learning about and expressing themselves, while gaining and improving upon this new skill. Read More

Since each student learns differently, I utilize a variety of teaching methods. Some students are auditory learners. Some students are visual learners. Some students learn better when several method books are used in correlation with each other. I let my students set their own goals from a list of basic/intermediate goals I come up with that may be good for them to improve on or learn for future sucess. I let them set their own pace and never let them get discourage or be hard on themselves. Music is fun! It should never be something a student feels is a burden or something they no longer want to do simply because it may take them a little longer to pick up on. Read More
