I am a southern California retired music teacher. I graduated with a double major in music from South Dakota State University. I taught instrumental music in public and private schools for the last 36 years. I have also owned and operated my own piano studio. I am married and have three boys. My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had.   I also perform concerts and record with Combo Amazo, a band that plays original jazz, blues, bluegrass, and klezmer.  We were featured on the several NPR radio shows including E-town with Richie Havens. I lead a strolling duo on clarinet with guitar that played in the Denver International Airport Concert Series for 20 years and is available for any event.   I decided to teach because I wanted to share the enthusiasm and joy I have for music with students.  I feel passionate about helping develop a child’s talents as a musician. For beginners, I usually work with the beginning band books that are established by the public schools they attend. If they arent in band yet, then I would start them on the Rubank Elementary Methods book for Bb clarinet. The Rubank methods are my go to for all levels, beginner, intermediate, and advanced. For intermediate students, I also use the Melodious and Progressive Students and for advanced students, I work out of the Rose 32 etudes and 40 studies. Read More

As section leader in my band, I went to the local middle school to help their clarinet players learn and improve on a 1 on 1 basis. Although I did not choose to persue music as my full time career, it is my full time hobby. Since high school, I have continued to give private lessons.
