My teaching experience began in my undergraduate days at Morehead State University. While teaching private lessons to students across Kentucky I also was a music theory tutor for my peers at Morehead. I have experience teaching students at all levels, from beginner to advanced levels. My theory and private lesson students always gained much improvement, and some of my advanced students even entered all state bands and competitions. No matter if a student is considering a career in music or just considers music a fun hobby and wants to improve, there’s always so much to learn! Read More

I believe that every student's learning should be catered to for their individual needs, strengths, and weaknesses. Approaching every student as if they are different than the one previously ensures that there is assessment of needs in every lesson. Learning isn't a photocopy process which means a lot of the learning process is a responsibility of the student. I view my job as a teacher is to 1) make sure the student isn't getting overwhelmed, 2) hold the student accountable for their learning, and 3) guiding students through experiences that will facilitate their learning. My goals as a teacher are to 1) bring students to the highest level of technical ability they are able to attain, and 2) develop in the student the highest level of musicianship possible through theory and ear training. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons out of my mom's kitchen 10 years ago. Since then I have been consistently teaching students at both colleges I have attended. Now that I have moved back to my hometown, I am employed at a local music store teaching woodwind players. There are three things I like to emphasize for students who are beginning a new instrument: 1. Read More
