I believe in a strong foundation for beginning students and I make sure that is the first part of every lesson, the same way an athlete exercises to stay in shape, a musician must also maintain the facility on their instrument. After fundamentals have been addressed the student moves to solo repertoire, one piece picked by the student, then one picked by me. For beginners, I usually work with the beginning band books that are established by the public schools they attend. If they arent in band yet, then I would start them on the Rubank Elementary Methods book for Bb clarinet. The Rubank methods are my go to for all levels, beginner, intermediate, and advanced. For intermediate students, I also use the Melodious and Progressive Students and for advanced students, I work out of the Rose 32 etudes and 40 studies. Read More
