I have been teaching for over 15 years and I love watching students grow in their musical abilities. I get so excited when the passion comes out of them into their playing. I got my Bachelors in music performance on cello, but I started on piano and violin when I was six years old. As an avid educator, Ms. Ma is totally committed to teaching. She is a fully-trained Suzuki cello teacher and Dalcroze Eurythmics instructor having completed her training at the Cleveland Institute of Music Suzuki Pedagogy Program. She currently holds teaching positions with the Cincinnati Young Artists, University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory, 2019 CYA Summer Cello Academy, Indian Springs Academy of Music and Musika Lessons. I graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Music Education, with a focus on Euphonium. I have worked as a long term sub in middle school band and have taught privately since that time. Learning isn't a photocopy process which means a lot of the learning process is a responsibility of the student. I view my job as a teacher is to 1) make sure the student isn't getting overwhelmed, 2) hold the student accountable for their learning, and 3) guiding students through experiences that will facilitate their learning. My goals as a teacher are to 1) bring students to the highest level of technical ability they are able to attain, and 2) develop in the student the highest level of musicianship possible through theory and ear training.
