For my beginning piano students, I like to start with Alfreds performance books and music theory to help assist the note and music reading. My cello students that are still in the beginning stages I like to have using the Suzuki books to help work towards more advanced music and skills. My voice students are all very different so I shape our lesson methods based on what style of singing theyre interested in, but we always begin working on proper breathing and learning solfege. I have been playing cello for 20 or so years. I have studied at CSUN classical cello performance. I have been teaching for about 10 years. I have brought many students from complete beginners all the way up to concierto level playing. I have played for and with many very successful bands over the years including Chelsea Wolfe, No Age, Saint Motel, Tes Elations. It's important to move at the student's pace - whatever speed that may be. It's important to build a solid foundation but that doesn't necessarily mean mastery or perfection. It's easy to lose interest if stuck on one piece to long so we'll move through the material as quickly or as slowly as the student desires as long as the foundation is there.
