While I do like to use method books and curriculum such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Strings and Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course, I also recognize that every student is unique. That's why I work hard to get to know each of my students and figure out what their strengths and needs are. I urge my students to practice regularly on a consistent schedule; improvement is dependent on this, but I also encourage them to explore. We have all heard that practice makes perfect. In reality, perfect practice makes perfect, and true improvement comes from proper practice technique. That can seem a difficult goal for students, so each lesson targets a realistic goal for practice techniques and improvement. As we work on the short-term objectives, we also have the long-term goal of recitals and possibly other performances throughout the year.
