I find the most rewarding thing about teaching music is the spark that ignites in each individual student to blossom into a musician. Music has held a major position in my life since I was very young. I began composing music before I was in school. I began taking piano lessons when I was four years old. I studied voice and was trained by professional choir director Bill Graham for several years. I played trumpet in middle school and was first chair. I toured nationally with the NC boys choir. As an itinerate teacher I travelled between three school buildings within the district and sometimes two buildings within the same day. It is important to understand what motivates a student to learn something. Understanding what is creating that relationship between the student and that instrument is important to understand. I encourage learning how to set goals and plot them against a calendar. Identifying short and long term goals helps us have a target to aim for even if it is years away.
