I've been teaching Guitar since I was an undergrad. I began teaching in public schools in 1985 and have taught Guitar, Band, and Orchestra at the Elementary, Middle and High School level. My main instrument is guitar (classical guitar, folk, rock, blues, jazz, country, pop. etc.); I also play and teach electric bass (rock, jazz, country, etc.) and ukulele (all styles). For beginners I press through Hal Leonard's Guitar Method #1, laying a foundation of skills as well as approaching notation reading on the guitar. My teaching style is fairly easy going. I don't force unrealistic expectations on students because everyone is learning music for a different reason. I like to figure out what their reason is and progress accordingly. If it's a young student looking to continue music throughout their school career, I will make sure they learn how to read sufficiently and I will make sure they know how to play with peers by performing with the student as an accompanist.
