The reason for this is that if the student is working towards a goal they have a motivation to keep moving forward. Woody is a guitarist and singer-songwriter from Potsdam, New York. He is a teaching artist at the Swedesboro Performing Arts Academy in Swedesboro, New Jersey, and teaches in Westchester County New York, Bucks County Pennsylvania, and New Jersey as an instructor for Westchester Home Music, Musika, and Scarsdale Strings. I began teaching beginner piano when I was in middle school and caught the teaching bug! (My dad was a high school choir teacher for thirty-five years, so I must have caught it from him.) Now I teach violin/fiddle, voice and piano. I believe that learning classical music and sight reading are both fundamentals to begin learning any instrument. My mother influenced my life as a musician. In 1969 she encouraged me to audition for the Newark Boys Chorus. I auditioned. I was accepted and sang in choir-school for three years, singing music from Renaissance to R&B. In 1980 I received a BM and MMT from Oberlin Conservatory. At Oberlin I met three great teachers who encouraged me to sing professionally. I pursued the career!
