For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. I first started tutoring younger students in violin when I was in high school, but after graduating from college I took on an instruction position at a local music school as Strings Instructor. There, I began teaching much younger students using mutli-sensory techniques to keep my students engaged and most importantly, having fun! I started teaching violin and guitar lessons in high school and was fortunate enough to have had students throughout college on a much wider array of instruments. Lately, since Ive begun teaching from my home studio in Leicester, NC, Ive also been able to hone my skills as a performer in the diverse music scene that flourishes in these mountains. Because of this my teaching has grown to embrace and celebrate the improvisational and communal aspects of folk music as well as the rigorous, methodical approach to technique and theory that I learned as a classically trained violinist. I graduated from UNC-SA through both their highschool and collegiate programs. After earning my violin performance degree I continued to travel around the United States and Japan, teaching violin everywhere i went.
