My belief is that performed music should be fun for the performer as well as the audience. I will always give my best effort when I teach but students are also required to put in effort if they want to learn and become passionate about music. I encourage my students to have regular practice routines but make sure they are not overwhelmed. When I teach I also like to ask my students questions (such as how much bow do you need for this note? or what is the best approach to make this phrase more expressive with your left-hand?) so that students can learn to come up with solutions by themselves and can feel comfortable practicing without my always being there to guide them. I motivate my students by making detailed practice charts at each lesson, setting long and short-term goals, and encouraging students to participate often in recitals as well as attend local professional performances whenever possible. It is one of the most exciting and rewarding things to witness the progress of each student over time and to be a part of it. Read More

I have had students learn from me for a few years now ever since my high school years. In my experience, the best way to get a student involved is to not only introduce them to the typical repertoire of their instrument, but also to help them write out, learn, or perform music they have a vested interest in learning. This can come in the form of pop music, inspirations like Lindsey Sterling, operatic or broadway show tunes and even music made for video games. Read More

For beginning students, I usually teach with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books starting with book 1 to book 3. Once they are comfortable, and progression is recognized, I will introduce Suzuki Violin School. Not only do I solely focus on the music, I give students hand and bow exercises they can do during lessons or while just sitting at home watching TV. I also recommend that my students practice in the bathroom while at home because of the natural acoustics it provides. Read More

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
