Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Beginner students typically start with Essential Elements. Once the basic fundamentals are grasped, the student will be introduced to repertoire in Suzuki. Intermediate and advanced students will be introduced to solo repertoire that may include concertos, sonatas, and etudes. Scales will be an essential part of practice. I urge my students to practice regularly on a consistent schedule; improvement is dependent on this, but I also encourage them to explore. When it comes to putting bow to string, I begin with just open strings and rhythms. I think learning by ear at first can be really helpful so I would teach the student to hear and identify pitches and play songs by ear. Then I would teach basic one octave scales in a few different keys. I believe that scales are the foundation to everything! At this point, I would begin the studnets on the first Suzuki Book.
