I am a 19 year-old student of Baptist College of Ministry in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Having grown up the second oldest of five siblings, I understand how to relate to other people and work with them even in difficult situations. As a Christian, I believe in good character principles and righteous living. I ultimately desire the best for others rather than myself. Experienced in private and group teaching settings for beginner to advanced level string students for ten years. I am currently the Strings instructor at Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC where I offer beginner to advanced classes for violin, viola, and cello. I use a variety of different methods and I tailor my curriculum to each individual student, offering you a personalized approach that is unique to your personality and learning style. I teach repertoire from the Suzuki Violin School and Barbara Barber's Solos for Young Violinists, I also like to incorporate other styles if the student is interested, such as fiddle and bluegrass, and even pop and Disney songs. I also use etude and scale books to help build and enhance certain techniques, such as Wolfhart Etudes, Barber Barber Scales for Young Violinist, Carl Flesch Scale System, etc., depending on the level and individual needs of the student. You must spend time and practice in order to see improvements. Developing a weekly practice chart is something I like to implement in my lessons. Using positive reinforcement and rewards such as stickers, or sometimes candy can be very helpful to some. I try to find out what inspires my students and I do not try to mask who I am. I believe being my funny, goofy self helps students to feel more comfortable and open in this supportive relationship. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with Suzuki Book 1. A strong foundation is key to playing the violin/viola. I do teach the Suzuki method, but I understand that method of teaching does not work for all students--one size does not fit all. I believe all students have the innate ability to learn an instrument despite their background. I find the Suzuki books provide a strong foundation with the ability to play full songs from the start.
