Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I believe in the power of demonstration and playing along with the students. I also encourage students to practice vocal-instrumental coordination when establishing the concepts of musical expression within structures. I adopt some ear training for younger students as they develop a sense of pitch and theoretical knowledge for adults who learn better with checkpoints. I design and adjust learning plans constantly for individual students as they learn and help them with specific goals, long-term and short-term, and have achieved them 100% of the time. Read More

Normally with very young students I start with the parallel study of written music, basic technique and music learned by imitation. It is a question of repeating short fragments of melody and then composing the whole piece piece by piece. This practice is widely used in many musical traditions and leads the student to develop the ear and the memory, that is the main elements of the musical practice. After graduating from California State University, I became involved with conducting and established my own youth symphony orchestra, working with teens who were eighteen years and younger. I organized weekly rehearsals, prepared the orchestra repertoire, and arranged performances. During my graduate studies at the San Francisco conservatory I was involved in the internship program coaching orchestra excerpts and private lessons at George Washington High School. Recently I became involved with music composition and scoring and arranging pieces for solo instruments and ensembles. Read More

I employ a very eclectic, rotating repetoire. For beginning violin students, I use the Suzuki method of ear-training, however I am not married to that curriculum. I prefer to use beginning Suzuki materials in tandem with standard American folk and pop music, in accordance to the student's interests. I am qualified to teach all the way through Suzuki book 10 if the student prefers a more classical approach. Ear training is fundamental in my approach to all instruments and styles. Read More

For beginning string student's, I use Essential Elements for Strings and Schroeder method books. Once the student has grasped the basic fundamentals and note reading, I begin to introduce solo repertoire from the Suzuki String method. Along with technical studies and solo repertoire, the student will learn scales ranging from one to four octaves. For beginning piano student's, I use the Bastein Piano series. This method is complete with a method book, solo repertoire, theory studies and scales. Read More
