I began teaching lessons in college when I was in a piano pedagogy class. At that time, I also began teaching private band and string instruments. I had a student teaching experience where I was able to teach band instruments with students in grades 5-8. After that experience I accepted a job in North Carolina as an orchestra director. I like to start by finding out the goals that a student has and wants to achieve in their lessons, and then coming up with ways to achieve those goals. While I expect students to work hard and put in practice time, I also realize that students have busy lives outside of their music lessons. My expectations are realistic.
