Overview:

Welcome to my teaching profile page! My name is Joshua B. and I am a researcher, educator, and musician. I am a recipient of the Southern Regional Education Board Doctoral Scholar Fellowship at Louisiana State University, where I am a Ph.D. student in Music Education and Pedagogy. I made my Kimmel Center debut at the 2008 Hispanic Choice Awards performing a viola transcription of J.S. Bach’s Suite No. 3 for cello. Since then, recent highlights include solo concerts at LSU, Montgomery County Community College, The Free Library of Philadelphia, and chamber music recitals at the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, University of Delaware, and Nicholls State University. In addition to private studio teaching, my other teaching credits include graduate-instructor and teaching assistant at LSU School of Music and faculty positions at Volidera Musica, Ambler Music Academy, and Kids’ Orchestra. I studied viola with Victoria Voronyansky privately and later at Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance when I was offered a scholarship for undergraduate studies; he was subsequently further mentored by Elias Goldstein for his graduate studies. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Temple University and a Master of Music in Viola Performance from LSU. An avid researcher, I am a Research Assistant at the LSU Music Education department and am a Research Associate with the LSU Translational Research in Music Group. My research interests include aesthetics, moral and ethics philosophy in music, pedagogy, and adult education.

LESSON STYLE

What makes my teaching unique is that I embark on a musical journey with my students to discover how music can support their individual interests and needs. It is important to develop a healthy and productive approach to learning an instrument. In turn, it makes the learning process enjoyable and rewarding for the student. I expect my students to practice consistently with attainable and focused goals because it links one lesson to the next. I encourage my students to keep a journal of their practice sessions because it allows them to analyze their work and realize what practice strategies are most effective for their individual practice. Together, the student and I find ways to make learning engaging so that the dedication, commitment, and most importantly, the love for music-learning continues to motivate the student to pursue possibilities in music and a life-long learner.
