In my lessons knowing scales and arpeggios will be important. I also teach about keys and time signatures early on. As my students get into more advanced music, I select solo literature that best fits their musical abilities. For my vocal students I select music that is appropriate for them from the very beginning. For my male vocal students, I coach them through the voice change, which is a rewarding experience for me.
