I trained at Eastman Conservatory of Music o atthe University of Rochester, New York in the mid 80's. I think students are more engaged and willing to practice when they are actually enjoying what they are learning, and music is an amazing thing, so it should be engaging! I am a lighthearted and easy going teacher, and I am also experienced in many different areas of music. This allows me to really tailor my lessons to my students needs. I believe a good musical day is enjoyed through a well-balanced musical diet! I love to keep the fundamentals in mind with scales and etudes fit for the student's skill level, and leverage those through a performance piece of choice, be it mine or yours (with blessings). If we are working towards a specific piece for a recital or a judge, I will tailor assignments to the piece. I first started tutoring younger students in violin when I was in high school, but after graduating from college I took on an instruction position at a local music school as Strings Instructor. There, I began teaching much younger students using mutli-sensory techniques to keep my students engaged and most importantly, having fun! It is important that each student progress at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals and expectations. Acknowledging any and all accomplishments are key to fueling the students desire to learn more. My students can expect to receive homework and practice goals after each lesson. I want to find what inspires my students so I will always tailor my instruction to their wants and desires. During each lesson, we will start with warming up through scales and stretching and then moving to our practice goals for the week, through the practice goals we can determine what next weeks lesson should look like and what the student can focus on outside of their lesson.
