Im a passionate and personable instructor who loves working with beginning intermediate and advanced students. In 2009, I graduated from the University of Missouri with a masters degree in music composition and a focus on music theory pedagogy. I teach piano, violin, and viola. My philosophy for quality music education has three main parts: appreciation, practice, literacy. I braid all three of these parts into each lesson, with a student focused approach. During my masters degree I studied Suzuki pedagogy. While I don't follow the method exactly, I do incorporate much of the philosophy into my own teaching. With beginners, I prefer to teach the violin by ear so that my students can focus on their technique rather than reading music, while developing strong listening skills that are important for playing any instrument in any style. Once a student has grasped the fundamentals of violin, I begin to introduce music reading and solo repertoire appropriate to their level. Read More
