Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I love to teach music and how to play an instrument to any student at any stage in their educational development. I hold two degrees in Instrumental Music Education from both Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. I have been an active performer throughout my career, participating in several ensembles in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Florida in a wide variety of music genres including classical, jazz, bluegrass, American folk, and latin. I began giving lessons in my 2nd semester in college. I have been able to meet people from all walks of life and given lessons to students from ages 3 to 68. I read a great amount of classical literature and study allot of history; I say this to acknowledge the fact that I don't only teach proficiency in the music discipline. Nothing is more rewarding than having a student fall in love with music and playing it for themselves and others. It is important to me that each student not only progresses in skills and technique, but also gains a deeper love and understanding of music. I believe playing in a group with other like-minded musicians is essential for every musician. My main goal in teaching music is to build a good foundation. Not all music students will go on to major in music, and that's OK. Music offers invaluable experiences for everybody involved, and I have seen music change lives. There is a lot of evidence that music helps in school performance and test taking, and there is evidence that music helps to build organizational and critical thinking skills. I use multiples methods. One of them is the Susuki method. I consider that is a good method for beginners with a lot of techniques exercises and also includes pieces. For me it is essential that a student learn first all the techniques exercises and then start to create music. After that I started to teach how to respect the essential aspects in a piece: the fingering, the bowing, the dynamics, the tempo and others. Read More
