Because of how unique and diverse a student's goals, needs, and experience are, my teaching style varies greatly between student to student. The work we typically do is a combination of working on fundamentals, etudes, solo repertoire, sight reading, basic music theory, listening skills, improvising, and composition. Through engaging with music in these different ways of thinking and processing information students gain perspectives from various different sources, making practice efficient and effective, their understanding of the content deep, and performing fun. I have a dynamic, positive, and passionate teaching style. Each student is able to move at their own pace and focus on their specific needs. I also create space for students to be themselves and create a little bit. Creativity is one of the highest levels of understanding and it's also fun! Read More

My philosophy in teaching the trumpet is based on the individual needs of the student at their particular stage of development. I strongly believe in reinforcing the fundamentals of brass playing: Proper breathing, air support, correct embouchure and tongue placement are all crucial elements for the trumpeter to achieve production of a clear and open sound. Once such sound production has been attained in the lower and mid ranges of the instrument, the capability of the player to produce higher tones increases with proper practice and the help of studies of the overtone series as well as the playing of scales. Rhythmic and metered playing must also be exercised for the sake of re-enforcing the ability to play in tempo and for rendering unfamiliar rhythm patterns manageable. Read More
