I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I am been studying music since the age of five and have had the privilege to travel throughout the country as a professional musician. In 2000, I left medical school to pursue music and have never regretted the decision!  I went on to receive my bachelor's in 2004 and master's in 2012, both in instrumental music education.  I recently relocated to South Tampa after being a full time 4th-8th band director for 10 years in Chicago.  I also taught kindergarten music and K-3rd group piano.  I have been teaching private lessons on all instruments for 13 years, with an average of 10 students per week in my studio. I started to teach group music class and private lesson when I was in undergraduate. I always try to bring everything I learned from performance, music education, observing other music teacher and my own experience to every music lesson I gave. Practicing consistently is the most important way to make the lesson experience more pleasant and worthwhile. For beginning level students of any age, I will begin lessons by going over basic fundamentals of sheet music reading (notation, connecting the instrument to the literature) and music theory that will aid them in accomplishing homework tasks independently. For experienced students, I will ask the student to demonstrate knowledge and playing to their best ability to obtain a better understanding of where to continue their studies. I will also ask all students what kind of music they are already studying and what else they would like to pick up from there (studying classical contemporary for school band with an interest in starting jazz music, etc.) I will always consider the students age and playing level to appropriately create lesson plans that will ensure growth over time.
