I am currently in the Doctoral program at University of Arizona. I received Artist Diploma at Texas Christian University studying under Dr. David Begnoche. Also, received my Masters degree from Cleveland State University studying with Shachar Israel, Assistant Principal Trombone of the Cleveland Orchestra, and hold Bachelor degrees from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and Kasetsart University, where my teachers were Shannon Pittaway and Teerapol Submool. Along with fundamentals, I always start incorporating music theory, to help them better understand how music is structured and to further train their ear. Of course, depending on the level will depend how far we get into music theory. Even though they might be taking trombone lessons, I don't want to necessarily train them to be a trombone player, but rather a musician. Depending on my analysis of a, diagnostic, first lesson, I would assign a method book that is appropriate to the students needs. I have worked with many different method books, but the Essential Elements books are valuable because of the audio CD that is included with the books. I have been a music educator in the public schools for over 40 years having taught in Austin, Texas and currently in Fort Worth, Texas. Many of my students have gone to play their instruments in college bands throughout the state. Several former students are currently teaching music at the secondary and college level. I have many daily exercises and warm ups I've collected from professionals I've studied with or had master's classes with over the years for beginners, intermediates, as well as advanced performers.
