My #1 passion is teaching music. I'm currently the band teacher at Cary Christian School. I've been playing trombone professional for almost 20 years, my most recent gigs were playing for Princess Cruises full time, and been teaching for 20 years. My passion for playing isn't what it used to be, so I'm focusing my musical efforts on teaching. My teaching philosophy revolved around the idea that music should be fun and engaging. While many teachers start their students off by learning how to read music, I like to begin with actually playing and familiarizing yourself with the instrument and later translating that information to written music notation. I like to have lesson plans made for all of my students to focus on different parts of their playing, including a solo of either their choice, or the one they have big audition on. That way no matter what, there's no excuse for not practicing, there will always be plenty of material to be worked on.   I have been teaching and mentoring students for 7 years.  I hold a B.A. from Hampton University, a M.M. from Central Michigan University, and a North Carolina teaching license in instrumental music education.  I am currently a band director in Leland North Carolina. I teach brass, woodwind and percussion methods. I enjoy working with students and performing great music.  My teaching career began in college.
