Simply put, I love music. I listen to music and make music and teach music in different styles, on different instruments, in different ways. I've recorded and performed on trombone, trumpet, bass, guitar, ukulele, tuba, and more. I've played with symphony orchestras in Carnegie Hall and with rock bands in Brooklyn basements. My particular brand of brass pedagogy has roots that trace back to the Chicago Symphony's legendary Bud Herseth. I believe in the pursuit of mastery of many of the basic techniques of brass playing - air movement, flexibility, and tone are the most important pieces of what we do as brass players, and I have collected an arsenal of exercises to build skill in these areas. I use a collection of techniques from a wide range of trumpet players from Ray Mase to Allen Vizzutti to Michael Sachs and will use these approaches to define musical outlook and technique. Most of my teaching time is spent in the classroom where I have taught music from pre-school through high school. I began my teaching career with seven years of teaching students with multiple handicaps and moved in 2001 to my current postion where I teach from pre-k through third grade. I currently also direct a middle school choir and our annual middle school musical. For the past 4 years, I have been at Seton Hall University studying to become proficient in Contemporary Trumpet and to possess solid skills in the collection of all other brass and woodwind instruments in order to teach music. I am fully qualified and most of my teaching experience comes from my students and teaching music within my church. While student teaching I taught all instrumental music classes for grades 8 9.I also collaborated on curriculum and exam development, met with students upon request, graded all written work and oral playing tests, and created lesson plans.
