I have been teaching since I was 18. I strongly encourage at least 10-30 minutes a day of practice. I believe in experiencing the JOY in music, but it does require discipline and work. I can also help with compositional ideas, as I took 2 years of composition as my secondary applied area of study for my bachelor's degree. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Standard of Excellence Method Book 1. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of those fundamentals, I will begin to introduce other method books and solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Fundamentals will still be a major part of every lesson even after the student has grasp them.
