After this first lesson, I have a much better idea of what particular piano method series will work best for that student. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Standard of Excellence Method Book 1. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of those fundamentals, I will begin to introduce other method books and solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Fundamentals will still be a major part of every lesson even after the student has grasp them. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
