I encourage students to study at a pace that is comfortable for them however I believe that it is a teacher's responsibility to expose and push students beyond what they may feel comfortable with. I graduated last fall with a bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from ASU Jonesboro AR. I have learned a variety of expansive repertoire ranging from Renaissance through Contmemporary. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Standard of Excellence Method Book 1. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of those fundamentals, I will begin to introduce other method books and solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Fundamentals will still be a major part of every lesson even after the student has grasp them. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I feel that creating a freestyle/open studio environment with the ability to diversify their talents into different areas is true to what makes music what it is. In other terms, I will teach multiple instruments to a student within a lesson if they so choose to(with keeping progress in mind).
