Again, as stated above, my approach is based on the proven CAGED system, and stresses mastery of the basics, using the language and concepts of "classical", jazz and blues -in particular. I begin by establishing what students (already) know and don't know about music and their chosen instruments, making connections between pre-existing knowledge and concepts, and "filling in holes" -while teaching these basics. The next step is creating a pleasant sound on your instrument. I began teaching professionally in the Bay Area about 30 years ago. I have taught in a variety of settings includings classes, group lessons, in music stores, for school districts, at students' homes and in my own private studio. Every person learns differently and I am highly skilled at detecting this and using it to my students' advantage. I was a teacher in the public schools, and I wanted to be able to give more one-on-one attention to students. I wanted to be able to teach in a way that uplifts students and makes them excited about music. I also wanted to be able to make students feel comfortable and have fun. I have a degree from Vandercook College of Music in Music Education.
