I believe practicing is important, but I do not believe assigning homework is an effective way to make music fun for a student. I like to use a combination of methods and method books. For a beginning band student I would use Standard Of Excellence of Essential Elements. For guitar students I like to use a combination of methods, depending on the student. I like to use the Old Town School's book for their first songs or Essential Elements for guitar. I like to use a method for guitar that emphasizes reading notes instead of just tabs, and also emphasizes rest stroke and free stroke. Read More
